Dutch-Georgian artist Sophia Tabatadze studied in Tbilisi, New York and Amsterdam. Her work comprises installations, performance, videos and drawings – some of her artistic output is dedicated to Georgia’s urban spaces. “Humancon Undercon” (2007, short for: human condition under construction) is a print of fabric that highlights traces of humans appropriation in an urban environment whose large-scale structures have become inhuman for people to live in it. In 2012 her project “Just Buy and Put a Fence Round It” ironically comments Georgia’s increasing privatization of public and state property. In her film “Pirimze” (2012-2014), a Soviet-era building in Tbilisi that was constructed to accommodate repair and maintenance services, becomes the central object from which a broader story about social and visual changes after the Soviet Unions’ collapse evolves.
