An important topic of Lado Darakhvelidze’s work is the media and its sociopolitical impact in the Caucasus region. The exhibition “Mapping the Caucasus with you” unifies a borderless Caucasus region through the collection of past memories of Caucasian individuals, while “The Caucasian History Lesson” examines how key historical events are taught entirely different in school textbooks from Armenia, Turkey, Azerbaijan and Russia. In his project “Transformers St. Petersburg” Darakhvelidze dealt with Central Asian and Caucasian migrants facing institutional exploitation through Russian institutions. While in his drawings he gives insights into their powerful struggle of informal self-organization his website transformers-stpetersburg.com maps incidences of racist violence against Central Asian migrants. The Kutaisi-born artist lives and works in Arnhem, Netherlands.
